Q: Why do you do this job?
A: I've been passionate about algae since my bachelor's degree in marine biology. I had the idea to market algae-based products, but I lacked the business knowledge, equipment, and products to make it happen. I put this project aside to pursue a master's degree and eventually a doctorate in food science. I created a product that was easier to market than algae products, and dog treats allow me to combine all my acquired expertise to offer unique products.
Q: How does your company stand out?
A: We make dog treats to create special moments with your dog. They are 100% natural and hypoallergenic. I work with local producers.
Q: What is one of your challenges?
A: I'm a hard worker, and I've always had to work harder because I struggled in school. I almost sunk 1st grade but I ended up earning a PhD from McGill University! I also suffered a serious "crazy carpet" accident that left me in a deep coma, and neurologists told me I had won the lottery by surviving without complications. After that, I was able to return to university to complete my studies. My challenge is to establish a balanced routine that includes exercise and seven hours of sleep.
Q: How do you manage pressure at work?
A: The biggest source of pressure I've identified at work is uncertainty. To manage this well, I move at my own pace to be able to cope with this uncertainty. I'm surrounded by trusted and experienced people who help me manage this uncertainty.
Q: Do you have any tips for success in business?
A: What helped me was keeping my business's start-up costs to a minimum. For six years, I accumulated used or free equipment. I also sought out all the resources I could to adapt my product to the market in terms of price and quality.
Q: What is an important value for you?
A: It's perseverance. I try to appreciate every small success while dreaming of going a little further. If I'm participating in this Women's Special, it's to celebrate where I am and encourage myself to go further. If it can inspire one person, you never know the positive effect it can have.
